San Jose del Cabo prepares for hurricane
On Sunday night in San Jose del Cabo no visible signs on the approaching Hurricane “Jimena”. There were no “filas’ - waiting lines at gas stations or elevated grocery shopping observed. There was also no rain yet the sky remains overcast and cloudy. Some house owners could be seen trimming excess branches off trees.
According to the local tourism office the occupancy in the area is +/- 50% at hospitality enterprises. Some travel agents report cancellations. There are 17 schools in Cabo San Lucas preparing to shelter residents from dangerous exposure areas if the hurricane makes landfall in the area. Warnings and information have been issued to 20000 families living in the area of “arroyos” regarding flash-floods.
The international airport San Jose del Cabo is operating normally. Is expected that the Cabo San Lucas port will be closed due to possible increases in the waves. For this Monday the expected arrival of the Carnival Elation cruise ship from San Diego was canceled.
